In thought, in practice, in song. * On the Hayom Yom entry for 22 Tammuz
The Rebbe Rashab beautifully stated, "A chassidic teaching makes the head clear and the heart clean; a chassidic virtuous practice fills the home with light; a chassidic melody fortifies hope and trust, brings joyousness, and places the home and family in a state of 'light.'"
A CHASSIDIC TEACHING
Our sages teach us that a single aphorism, when properly understood, has the power to encompass vast knowledge. In the words of the Rebbe Rashab, "Every Jew possesses an inner point of connection to God that is never extinguished." This profound teaching reminds us of our inherent holiness and divine potential. By contemplating this truth, we can bring clarity to our minds and purify our hearts, recognizing the eternal divine spark within ourselves and others. (Likutei Sichos, Vol. 1, p. 4)
CHASSIDIC VIRTUOUS PRACTICE
In a letter addressed to his Chassidim, the Rebbe Rashab wrote about the significance of implementing Chassidic virtuous practices within our homes. He emphasized the power of specific customs, stating, "The lighting of the Shabbat candles with devotion is a spiritual act that fills the home with divine light." Similarly, he encouraged reciting the Shema prayer with fervor, explaining that these acts of devotion and mindfulness infuse our homes with spiritual light, creating an environment that nurtures our souls and fosters harmonious relationships among family members. (Igrot Kodesh, Vol. 1, p. 128)
Chassidic melodies hold a remarkable power to uplift our spirits and inspire us towards greater faith and joy. Reflecting on this, the Rebbe Rashab taught, "Through the power of a joyous melody, we strengthen our hope and trust in God's benevolence." It is through the melody's enchanting notes and heartfelt lyrics that we can create an atmosphere of light within our homes. These melodies infuse our families with joy and a deep sense of connection to the Divine, fortifying hope and trust even in challenging times. (Sefer HaSichos 5750, p. 328)
Through the contemplation of Chassidic teachings, the observance of virtuous practices, and the uplifting power of Chassidic melodies, we can bring clarity to our minds, purity to our hearts, and a radiant light to our homes and families. May we continue to delve into the wellspring of Chassidic wisdom, allowing it to illuminate our paths and elevate our lives.
